Beast Of Lettir Dallan

Beast Of Lettir Dallan

A monster of early Irish legend. It is described as humanoid, with a huge bulbous body, not unlike a fire bellows, and the head of a man. It is the offspring of the daughter of a local priest who was seduced late one night along the lakeside by a monstrous water horse.

The Beast of Lettir Dallan later fathered the Ox of Dil along the same lakeside.

The account derives from Old Irish of the 10th century but was included in the Triads of Ireland in the late 14th century.
